Floodlit Tournament 2017

Friday 22nd September saw the culmination of another tremendously successful Swindon Bowls Club, Floodlit Tournament.

Fourteen teams played for places in the semi-finals and finals and at the end of the week the successful teams were “Westlecot”, “Penhill Boys”, “No More Novices” and “Ciderheads”.

The Eventual winner of this years competition was Westlecot with the Penhill Boys finishing second.

After every game, all players enjoyed a lovely meal cooked by the SBC Ladies and Thursday saw the drawing of the fantastic raffle organised by Chris O’Leary.

Our thanks to all the ladies for your hard work during the week and a special thank you to our sponsor A.C.Watson and Son Ltd.

Congratulations to Jim O’Leary for organising yet another great tournament and we all forward to next year’s Floodlit.

 

 

 

The Ron West Trophy: Update.

The winner of the Ron West Trophy competition was Mrs Jean McCaffery, in second place was Harry Langley and in third place was Carl Fernandes.

A total of £400 was raised through the raffles and match fees, and this included a cheque for £50 donated by the West family, for the winner to donate to their chosen charity.

The charities that Jean has chosen, each to receive an equal share, are the Prospect Hospice and MacMillan Nurses.

Our grateful thanks to all who took part in the competition and donated prizes for the raffle on the last evening, making the event a tremendous success.

Dennyside Bowling Association v John Austin’s Select Team. £2700 raised for Swindon Guide Dogs for the blind.

What a fantastic fund raising day today at Swindon Bowls club who hosted a bowls match between The Dennyside Bowls Association and the John Austin invitation team, in aid of Swindon guide dogs for the blind. From donations and raffles £2,700 was raised.

Players travelled from far afield from 14 counties including Nottinghamshire, Suffolk, Cornwall plus of course members from Swindon BC and other local clubs.

A big thank you to Alison White, Sandra Porte, Susan Herridge, Jean McCaffrey and Julie Watson for the catering plus June Johns for running the bar and Pam Wheeler for the raffle.

Swindon Bowls Club hosts St Joseph’s School Students

Swindon Bowls Club have once again hosted an event with students from St Joseph’s School.

In the morning of Tuesday 18th July, we had 22 students and in the afternoon 28, plus 3 members of staff during each session.

Both the students and staff enjoyed themselves immensely.

Carl and I wish to thank Cathleen Goddard, Terry Baker and Den Blaxhall for their assistance, without which we would not have been able to manage.
